About Me

Hi, I’m Kat!
My last name is very long and there are two of them, so you can just call me Kat. My pronouns are she and they. I’ve been teaching yoga longer than I’ve been doing pretty much anything else (since 2005!) I’m also the former editor-in-chief of Yoga International and co-author of Yoga Where You Are with my good pal Dianne Bondy (Shambhala, 2020). My latest book Yoga Inversions: Your Guide to Going Upside Down will be published by Shambhala Publications in 2023. I’ve trained in many different yoga schools and styles including vinyasa yoga, alignment-based styles, yin, hot yoga, Power Yoga, HIIT Yoga, and prenatal and postpartum practices, but these days I just tend to describe my approach as “weird.”
I also spent most of my 20s living in a yoga ashram where I studied Sanskrit, ayurveda, Tantric and Classical yoga philosophy, and yogic meditation.
I currently serve as department chair of the Yoga Studies program at Pacific College of Health and Science, and co-host the yoga true crime podcast Darkside of the Mat with Justine Mastine.
Today I live in Los Angeles with my spouse, Kyle, and together in our free time, we enjoy performing improv comedy and hosting live, pop-up events that sometimes involve yoga but are always absolutely bananas in the best of ways.
Fun Fact!
I spent three years on a search for North America’s very best donut. It turns out it was in Traverse City, Michigan the whole time.

“It was deeply fulfilling working with Kat on the developmental edit of my book. In addition to her being professional, timely, and brilliant as an editor, she was an utter joy to work with. Kat is a beautiful-hearted bright light who was able to penetrate the depths of my work and make it shine—I cannot recommend her strongly enough.”
